And all the while you’ve made me smile

with your honesty and laughter which

turns sad and solemn into silly with just a twitch

of your nose and that full-faced grin

which spins foolish into fun

and pricks bloated egos with a loving pin

while more pompous souls won’t even know that it’s been done.

It’s the everlasting child in you

that weaves the magic spell

your sweet insistence that a laugh is due

and a happy face as well

when life serves up a different dish to the one we’d planned

and we reach for someone we can tell

and feel the magic touch of that special someone’s hand.
